Floating Facilities

As production moves into deeper waters, floating production facilities become the preferred option. They may comprise:

  • semi-submersible platforms
  • tension-leg platforms (TLPs)
  • ship-shaped floating production storage and offloading facilities (FPSOs)

Such facilities require similar metocean design input to fixed structures, but are much more sensitive to the relative direction of wind, wave and current forcing, which affect riser design and mooring layout.

Consequently, analyses which elucidate both the joint occurrence of extremes, and directional deviation of extremes, are important.
